We got word at 5am that Ukrainian air space was closed and at the same time we heard about explosions outside of Kyiv. We immediately got up, rearranged our bags and headed out. At a stop on our way outside the city we heard shelling in the distance.
We’ve been at the border for about two-and-a-half hours. And by “at the border” I mean like a mile away or something. The line is long and getting much longer. I’m glad we got here when we did. We’ve moved more than I thought we would, but not very far at all. Thankfully we’ve been close to a gas station for a few more snacks and restroom breaks. I imagine we will be here all day.
UBI is getting some funds to help staff and students. Obviously there will be no classes for the foreseeable future. Students are free to stay in the dormitory apartments if they decide to stay in Kyiv. Thankfully we have had no problems with communicating with anyone so far.
If you would like to follow our more frequent updates, you can do so on our Telegram channel. Otherwise I’ll probably send out and email every week or so depending on how things develop. (If you are not familiar with Telegram, it is simply another chat app, but our “channel” acts as just another conversation and you will get updates right away without all the Facebook noise.)
Thank you all so much for your prayers. Keep praying.
